Krzysztofa Zwierz-Ciok

Krzysztofa was born in Brzesko, Poland in 1963.  She was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow where she was immersed in the art movement to become known as the “Krakow School”.

Krzysztofa’s painting has quickly transcended her classical artistic education to create her own version of painting – individually enough to be recognized and acknowledged for her personal conception.  She has been described as an “Essentialist”.  Her sophisticated poetic is characterized by restraint and discretion of expression.  Intuitively and consciously she creates her own kind of painting, her own language for this transmission of essence.

The work is technically representational, but at first glance reads as a kind of minimalist abstraction.  The strength of composition and palette pulls the viewer closer in where one discovers the form hidden in plain sight.   Krzysztofa’s closely focused oeuvre exposes the childlike joy of form.    A tightly controlled palette and careful manipulation of texture gives the work sensual depth beyond the immediate impression of austerity.
